What Are the Winter Ailments?

What Are the Winter Ailments?

  • Cold sore is another ailment that is common during the winter season although it is primarily caused by herpes simplex virus types 1 or 2. A small tingling red patch that may develop into a blister is what this begins from. It leaves a raw area when burst and may result an unsightly scab as it starts to heal itself.
  • A circulatory disorder that affects the toes, fingers, ears and even the nose is also linked to the winter season. It is called the Raynaud’s disease or phenomenon or what laymen would call chilblains.
  • Raynaud’s disease is characterized by the insufficiency of blood and oxygen that reaches the skin because of the narrowing of the blood vessels. When infected, the skin is likely to break down. It causes the skin to become pale white and then turn into blue and later into bright red due to the extreme cold season.
  • The most common winter ailment during winter is colds and flu. Although many physicians do not see a link between falling temperatures and these two, many think that it is a direct result.
  • Physicians put it this way, the winter season puts people at a compromised risk of a failing immune system. In effect, bacteria and virus can easily get through the body to present cold and flu symptoms.
